A key role of catalyst in cost performance during chemical production process

Due to the highly dependent process efficiency and stability of petrochemical production, over 90% of the current processes on the market adopt the catalyst-induced catalytic reaction, highlighting the importance of catalyst selection and technology development to the petrochemical industry. As the catalyst's upmost function is to accelerate chemical reaction to shorten reaction time span, or change reaction route for the less reactive system to perform as expected. Therefore, the approach to the selection or development of catalyst with high conversion rate, high selection rate, high stability, low pollution as well as long life span has been one of the crucial topics of modern chemical engineering processes.

With plentiful software/hardware resources engaged in the territory of catalyst technology, OUCC R&D has established its self-owned catalytic technologies through constant selections and evaluations of suitable commercial catalysts for development and application. The currently dedicated efforts of OUCC in the assessment or development of catalysts for hydrogenation, oxidation, epoxidization, amination, alkylation, hydrolysis, esterification/transesterification, ring-opening polymerization, and free radical polymerization may optimize not only the production process for quality enhancement, reduce production energy consumption, but also be applied for further processing development of various high-value chemicals.

In addition to the positive results from the catalyst territory, the R&D of OUCC has also applied for the multi-national patents for part of its self-owned catalytic technologies, and awarded with over 13 patents at home and abroad since 2017. With the expansion and more research resources poured in the domains of material synthesis and engineering designs for molecular structure, formula development, production processes, which obtained significant outcomes, OUCC remains steadfastly on its transformation path, striving for the vertical integration of the main producers, combining the upstream petrochemical raw materials with the downstream high-value fine chemicals.
